ELCA US Hurricane Relief
Strong winds and heavy rain from Hurricane Irene have left a trail of devastation along the East Coast. Many communities have experienced historic flooding and millions are without power; trees, debris and flood waters cover roads, making travel hazardous or even impossible. Rivers in these areas have not yet crested, so we won’t know the full extent of the damage from Irene for days or even weeks.
ELCA Disaster Response is in communication with people in affected communities around the United States. Discussions and evaluations have been made around the ability to respond, shortfalls of resources and emerging needs that are present.
